Welcome to the website of hardworking family man, Pete Harris. Resident of the Isle of Wight. The words ‘Sheep No More’ entered my thoughts around the time of the millennium, a long while before the project I’m about to outline firmed up. This is why… Unrepresentative, self-serving politicians doing their own thing at the general public’s expense… It’s my assertion that our national backbone has seemingly dissolved and the national spirit been suffocated. How else can the sheer scale of abuses inflicted upon us Brits be explained? We’re subjected to indignities heaped upon us from every possible angle and source. Yet like some bunch of mindless damned sheep, able to be shepherded and corralled to the will of competitors and foes alike. Toleration of what is plainly unacceptable has to our dysfunctional land become routine! Well I for one have had enough of it. I want an end to all this abuse. I want my children’s birthright back. I want Britain’s civilisation restored. And I want the national spirit to be fully revitalised. So if you share those sentiments dear reader you may then be interested in what follows… Sheep No More is not just the name of this website. More importantly, it is the title of a book for which a suitable publisher is now sought. Sounds like it could be a bit dry and hard going you might think? No… It’s written in a very earthy way. Calls a spade a spade. Pulls no punches. And I’m told by the few people to have read bits or the whole lot of it that it works well as both an eye opener and a page turner. This is due to the fact that the issues covered are tackled sideways on, so from an unconventional perspective, the aim being to connect up streams of logic for the purpose of building a complete and in focus picture. The subject matter in question being Britain and its way of life as they exist today. It’s even humorous in places. What more could any reader ask? In time, this website will be developed along the lines I’ll outline in brief, towards the end of this introduction. At this very early stage however, the job in hand is to make contact with the kind of publishing house capable of seeing where I’m coming from, and ascertain how big the potential audience for my book might be. Put it this way… place together two or three everyday, average Brits then prime them with a word or description such as ‘Asylum’. ‘Benefits Culture’. ‘Crime and Punishment’. Or ‘Political Correctness’ and see what happens. And do you know what? Each and every one of those people is a potential customer for my book. I can only hope that a publisher with the wit to see it reads this! I’d like to outline the thinking behind Sheep No More, the forces to have driven me to take the project on, and some of the major topics covered. As a prelude though, first I’ll ask of you personally dear reader, a few telling questions… 1. How do you feel about the current state of Britain? Do you share our Prime Minister’s opinion that alls fine and dandy. Or do you like me, exist outside his comfortable fantasy in the real world, where nothing could be further from the truth? Sheep No More ‘the book’ comprises 170,000 words over twelve chapters. The first eleven chapters are dedicated to answering the question… “How did we get into this fix?” whilst the final chapter works hard to draw together strands of logic and commonsense, the aim of which is to identify a starting point from where Britain’s moral majority of decent, hard working, and law abiding peoples, may choose to stand firm and cooperate, for the purpose of taking our country and civilisation back. As declared, the purpose of the book is to assess the nation’s state of wellbeing. To that end, a device is employed as a vehicle upon which the story moves forwards. The reader is asked to imagine that Britannia were not merely symbolic, but a real person. She is then placed upon a consulting room couch in order that her condition might be examined and an informed diagnosis made. Question… Is she likely to be in the pink as Gordon Brown claims? Or very far from it as I for one am certain she is? The seeding of Sheep No MoreI was born in 1956, so have been an adult for around three decades currently. It’s a thirty year long period, during which every British government I’ve endured has positively ‘presided’ over the country’s slide into social and moral dereliction. Never once on any subject matter, has the government of the day got to grips with a social ill, and sorted it out. It just hasn’t happened. Not ever! GerminationInitial work on the project began around the time of the millennium, when the title came to mind. Then for the next five years, I constantly experimented, in an attempt to get to grips with the art of writing. Finally, germination occurred on the 6th of May 2005. How so? It was the day following the General Election of that year, at which Blair and his bunch of cronies scored their third successive victory. On Election Day itself, I had stood in a poling booth, and been compelled to spoil my ballot paper, in protest at there being no candidate worthy of endorsement. That’s because like so many others, I have lost every scrap of faith I even once had in our politicians. Not some of them. All of them. I tell you frankly, mine was no rebellion carried out lightly. You see, I am painfully aware of the sacrifices made by my parents and grandparents generations that we might live as free men and women, within what was once, the world’s premier democracy. My own interpretation of the word democracy being… Once a government had been selected, the electorate is entitled to expect it will govern responsibly. Keep the country and its people safe, protect our civilised values, national sovereignty, stability, integrity, but most important of all… our children’s birthrights. Regardless of who would win the election in question, none of that was ever going to happen. They’d all ‘talked the talk’ of course. The reality is though, whoever would win would set about serving self interests, and those of their string pulling friends. I knew that, because I’ve always lived in Britain, and I know how British politics has come to operate. Therefore the only option available to me on the day in question was to protest and then apply my efforts constructively elsewhere. Hence my book. Major themesSovereignty. You’re probably thinking ‘political sovereignty’ as surrendered to the European Union will most likely be foremost in my mind? It’s an important issue that’s for sure, and it gets a whole chapter of attention within the book. What though about sovereignty where the ability to generate electricity is concerned for instance? Our country has squandered control over energy supplies as we import fuel from competitor nations, a major one of which likes to throw its weight around with tanks and warplanes. Also the government has gifted our civil nuclear industry to a foreign competitor nation? Barking mad, subservient, and in serious need of discussion or what? As for the surrendering of commercial and industrial sovereignty to competitor nations, to the extent that the most powerful forces working the strings of Britain’s economy generally now answer to foreign boards of directors. I think the time is long overdue, that we should get the national blinkers off; that this major downgrade to our status as an ‘independent’ nation should have all of the bones picked out of it. Thatcherism. ‘Margaret Thatcher knew the price of everything and the value of nothing’. Never was a truer word said about a British politician. Still today ‘Thatcherism’ is the governing force responsible for Britain in its current state. So I’d ask you to have a long hard look at what surrounds you. The place is in a hell of a mess isn’t it? Our sovereignty has been comprehensively trashed. The country is under foreign ownership. Communities up and down the land have had the rug pulled out from beneath their feet. The generations no longer communicate, but have come to mistrust and even fear one another. The nation has been psychologically crippled to the point we cannot any longer protect our national interests, or our communities. And Margaret Thatcher was the politician that allowed her name to be placed upon the monetary philosophy, to have brought all this about. Therefore there is no escaping for the woman from my perspective, in being named as the ‘architect’ of Britain in its current form. So should you have begun to suspect that I’m no fan of either the ‘Iron Lady’ her misguided self, nor of her poxy legacy, you would be bang on the money! This may surprise you... I am no socialist. I do in actual fact believe passionately in free enterprise. However… I believe in social responsibilities also. The monetarist philosophy that is ‘Thatcherism’ was designed by those at the top of the pecking order, to serve the money lust of the very same. Thatcherism has in actual fact, been the wrecking ball that has knocked the stuffing out of Britain, costing us both our social cohesion and our sense of ‘nationhood’. It has an enormous toll of societal damage to answer for. Deindustrialisation. ‘The World’s Workshop’ is how Britain used to be known. Ours was the land that featured wall-to-wall craftspeople from one end of the country to the other. Now we’re the land of burger flippers and minimum wage shelf fillers stacking superstores floor to ceiling with imports. The country where just about every family receives ‘tax credits’ to prop up inadequate incomes. Our government reckons cheap imports are great! I beg to differ, because the societal price of deindustrialisation is way too high. What have we lost? Our national skills base, as one industry after another has decanted abroad. Creative industries generate the best possible role models for British children and provide those same children with career prospects. Creative manufacturing industries generate identity and wealth at both local and national levels, yet despite the obvious and crucial societal benefits derived from ‘real’ jobs, for thirty years plus each and every British government has turned a blind eye towards the phenomenon that I have chosen to describe within my text… Britain’s ‘Deindustrialisation Counterrevolution’. The precise opposite of what happened during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and that every British child ever since had drummed into them at school. As the jobs have shipped out on mass. So has a hell of a lot more besides. We’ve lost the genuine craft apprenticeship. Many a pension scheme has folded. Our national creativity has been pummelled. And the national wealth has ended up being transfused in the most suicidal manner into the economies of our competitors, to pay for imports. Benefits culture. It fuels the feral and feckless, bankrolls the work-shy, has generated a veritable explosion where irresponsible breeding is concerned, and is the magnet to have drawn into Britain, quite literally millions of foreign benefits tourists. All I’ve done by listing those few abuses, is to state the obvious. Because every decent Brit with a work ethic, is fully aware of just how overblown and unsustainable, Gordon Brown’s benefits culture really is. Suppose though, we were to delve beneath the surface of the issue in order to discover how important an ingredient within the national malaise, the subject actually is? For instance… Just how easy has it been for British and foreign business chiefs, to kick into touch an ‘inconvenient’ workforce when money lust has caused them to sniff out cheap labour abroad? It’s my belief that Britain’s benefits culture has made turning your back upon your own countrymen, as easy as pie. ‘Benefits’ will ensure redundant workers won’t go hungry. And I think that’s become a major factor within the corporate thinking process, of those to have presided over our land’s deindustrialisation. And here’s another example of deep rooted benefits culture, in need of discussion… The legal trade. At the time of writing (January 2009). The banking industry’s chickens have been coming home to roost on mass. With the result that the entire populous has got to witness just how morally bankrupt and irresponsible that particular institution has been. Well I’ve a second, equally important institution to put forward for examination. Only this one has made Britain ungovernable. Remember when British justice was the envy of the world? And when the legal trade’s operatives were ‘pillars of society’? It’s my opinion, the current legal establishment have comprehensively blown the right to command any respect. On the contrary, they’ve traded in the ‘pillars of society’ bit. To become instead the country’s most ruthless breed of businesspeople. How so? Well for a start, it is the trade to have come to ‘infest’ British politics. Just look at the front benches of the big three political parties. Question… What is stock in trade for solicitors and lawyers? Answer… Division, dispute and disharmony. Put any of those in place, and the lawyer begins to make serious money. Just ask anyone unfortunate enough to have been through a divorce! What institution is responsible for tying Britain up in a cat’s cradle of new laws both domestically and regarding the European Union? Then who does it turn out, are the only people that understand those laws. And are thus able to charge the public purse an arm and a leg for their ‘expert’ services interpreting them? Who the target audience isI’ll put my hand up to being a nationalist, but not of the ‘Little Englander’ right wing sort. I simply want to live peacefully and contentedly within a fair minded, level headed meritocracy. That’s why I utterly despise Political Correctness that provides anyone with an agenda to pursue, an unfair advantage. Is my target audience white Anglo-Saxon/Celt exclusively? Absolutely not! It’s not even aimed just at those British born and bred. The genuine Anglophile who might have been in our land for five minutes but whose conduct demonstrates genuine affection for our country and way of life is every bit as welcome. What it’s NOT a cover forReligion and extreme rightwing nationalism. A fellow Brit or Anglophile may worship any god of their choice. Their beliefs are none of my business. Just don’t ram them down my throat ok? As for extreme rightwing nationalism of the white supremacist sort? InheritanceThere’s an awful lot more to Sheep No More, than I’ve been able to squeeze into this brief introduction. The feature I really cannot emphasise enough though is the driving force behind the need for this projects existence… Should you happen to be of a similar vintage to myself, then we both got to enjoy and benefit from growing up within the worlds most advanced civilisation. Now, just half a century later that civilisation is disappearing from view, having become buried beneath a slagheap of negative elements. We’re handicapped by the First World’s most miserable standard of leadership, and these have presided over the destruction of our commercial and industrial sovereignty. They’ve run a basket-case economy featuring a gargantuan benefits culture. And this has lead in turn to social dysfunction on a scale our predecessors who actually built Britain’s civilisation, would most likely be astonished at. Ours has now become the land in which individualistic aggression has largely displaced mutual cooperation and shared values. It’s become the land in which we dare not take our eyes off our children, due to fear of strangers. Meaning they aren’t allowed to explore their own environment independently. So therefore their development has become stunted. We’ve a monumental breakdown to family values. Fleeting adult relationships. Mothers married to the state. And for many a British kid, a catastrophic loss of high quality male role models to guide and stabilise their lives. Britain is now the land handicapped by a dysfunctional education system, whilst our competitors streak ahead. Fear of aggressive neighbours is common. And we’ve a massive problem with disorder upon the streets and within disintegrating neighbourhoods. Hundreds of thousands, perhaps even millions of our countrymen, rarely get an unbroken night of sleep due to feral yobs running amok beneath bedroom windows. We’ve a health time bomb waiting to explode, where drug and alcohol abuse amongst the young is concerned. As for the sexual health of the nation, now the morality of alley cats has become standardised? Does that really bear thinking about? Then there’s the matter of Gordon Brown’s benefits culture… We’re handicapped by policing and justice that has ceased to function effectively. To say out loud that you’re extremely unhappy about uncontrolled immigration makes you ‘racist’. Our servicemen even, are being ordered not to wear the Queen’s Uniform in public, for fear of inflaming Islamists; meaning that we are kowtowing to the sorts that murdered 52 innocent people in London in 2005. Pathetic isn’t it? But very telling indeed, where the current status of the country is concerned you might agree? Dear reader, what’s just been described is yours and my own children’s inheritance, and is about as far removed from the birthright I was gifted in 1956 as could be. Not acceptable is it? Most telling of all though, is that the Britain of today I’ve just described and that I defy anyone to deny as being anything less than accurate, really does demonstrate how pitifully inadequate is the generation in control currently. DevelopmentI’ll take it for granted that you dear reader and myself, can agree the country is in a diabolical mess? Also that nothing whatsoever is being done about it? From the outset, Sheep No more was not conceived as a means by which its author might become rich and famous. I’m not impressed by celebrity status one little bit. And I couldn’t give a tinkers cuss about flash cars and holiday homes. I want my peace of mind, sense of security, and faith in the future back. This is the motivating force behind the projects existence. My hope and intention is that the book will indeed sell by the shed load, and by doing so generate serious cash. And when that happens, the money will be channelled directly into a business account, and so will become the first source of funding for a commercial enterprise to be built around the themes described within the book. Here’s the thinking… A start at reclaiming our birthrights has to be made somewhere, and because the deindustrialisation of Britain and my awareness of it, provoked this entire project. That’s where in my opinion the first inroad must come. It is the issue that suggests to me personally, where the national malaise must first be attacked. Currently I’m one ordinary Brit with no profile, set of credentials, financial clout or influence. Therefore I’ve got to start small and build slowly upwards. The book itself will of course be sold through this website, amongst other outlets. And a catalogue of items to be endorsed with the Sheep No More logo will be made available for sale. Inexpensive products at first such as car stickers and mouse mats. Then in the course of time, more sophisticated items of merchandise. Ultimately and once sufficient ‘clout’ has been earned I have four big ideas, that when put into practice together will I am certain, capture the public’s imagination and will provide Britain’s creative industries with the kick-start they so desperately need. A note to potential publishersWhen I take down a book in a store, and open the cover to see where it was printed (which is always the first thing I do by the way). I confess myself to becoming both irritated and depressed at seeing the words ‘Printed in China’. An increasingly common sight, as industrialists from that country seek dominance over print media via the blueprint they’ve already deployed to devastating effect where textiles, house wares, toys, electronics, and the likes are concerned. My book must be printed within the United Kingdom and nowhere else. After all, the entire thrust of the project is to support British craft communities. And high quality creative role models for British children, as well as career prospects for the same. What’s more, I intent to emphasise the fact that the book has actively begun to support British jobs, and push that fact hard. So to any publishing house that really doesn’t get it. That can see the commercial opportunity but not the societal one, I’d say… Your way of doing business doesn’t suit me. The bottom ine.The writing of my book and development of a business plan has absorbed just about every spare minute I’ve had since the 2005 General Election. It represents this ordinary Brit’s best effort at refusing to remain passive in the face of our county’s ruination. I’m certain I haven’t wasted my time, and that’s because of the moral support I’ve had from family and friends. Now, I’m champing at the bit to get on with it. So help me out why don’t you? Particularly should you happen to be a switched on publisher. Finally… Those as concerned as myself to see the country put to rights, might say… building a new political organisation, to unashamedly put the interests of the decent, hard working and law abiding moral majority first. Must surely be the only way to get the job done, mustn’t it? Oh, I’d agree! But… Politicking costs a lot of money. To do it on a shoestring guarantees failure. And the job in hand, that of reclaiming every British kids birthright is just too important to risk cocking up. It therefore makes a great deal of sense to build first a commercial enterprise. And then place atop such a foundation, a political powerhouse in due course. Look… The Conservative Party is built upon ‘Old Money’ The Aristocracy, Public Schools, Big Business and all that. None of those represent me! I cannot identify with them at all. What I will say, is that out of touch establishment figures and monolithic soulless corporations, have ruined Britain. And I for one am seriously pissed off about that. I spoilt my ballot paper, because nowhere upon it was there a representative of the ‘decent ordinary Brit’s’ party to vote for. It’s a situation that must be addressed, and soon. However… Let us not be foolish enough to place the cart before the horse. Politics is for tomorrow. Commercial foundations come first. …oooOOOooo…
